xplris conceives of history as the collection of all people, events, and places along with their relationships. Large scale patterns and trends emerge naturally from connections that are local in space and time. Instead of a collection of text enriched with other media such as maps, graphs, and links, we employ a data driven approach. We build the network of connected historical entities with all values attached to them as evidenced by source material. Exploration of history is then possible through visualizations of that data on maps, timelines, graphs. Reasoning about causes and meaning is up to the user, not prescribed through a narrative.
